Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of 2023.

The win also indicates he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent defended four initial chances in a close third set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
